Jailbreaking Ipods, Iphones, and Ipads are becoming more and more popular as the benefits are endless. Jailbreaking enables the user to bypass Apple's system and gain control of the command line of the operating system. Jailbreaking Ipods, Iphones, and Ipads are becoming more and more popular as the benefits are endless. Jailbreaking enables the user to bypass Apple's system and gain control of the command line of the operating system. After jailbreaking, the user is able to download extensions, themes, and applications from a program known as Cydia which was created by Jay Freeman.

Jailbreaking allows the user to have complete control of their device, whether they want to customize their phone or download an application. Due to the benefits of jailbreaking, there's no doubt that it is becoming more and more popular. Although it is so popular, few stop to think if it is legal.

There is currently no contract against jailbreaking an Apple device. Although there is nothing restricting you from doing this, if you do jailbreak your device, this is an infraction of Apple's warranty and they will not fix your device if it malfunctions. This is why many jailbreaking websites encourage you to create a backup of your device before jailbreaking so that you are able to restore your device to factory settings and in turn, the warranty will be in play again. Although it is legal at the moment, Apple is working towards creating an agreement to restrict jailbreaking any Apple device.

Unlocking an Iphone allows the user to use a different carrier. For instance, the iPhone is currently only able to be used with AT&T as a carrier however after unlocking, you may use different carriers and sim cards such as T-Mobile. Unlocking is also currently legal however, like jailbreaking, Apple is also working towards making it illegal.

There is also a controversy over the moral conduct of jailbreaking. The user is basically stealing from not only Apple but also the creators of applications and artists of songs. Most do not worry about it, but there are people out there that choose not to jailbreak just because it is the "wrong" thing to do. Overall jailbreaking is your own choice and whether you choose to jailbreak your device or not, your phone is your device and I suggest you be happy with it.
